Cass County Jail Mugshots Status
Cass County does not publish an official jail roster mugshot page, recent-bookings gallery, daily booking report, or mugshot archive in the official sources reviewed. The local explanation is important: the Illinois Sheriffs' Association profile lists Cass County as having no jail, no jail address, and no jail beds. The Cass County Sheriff's Department remains the first local contact for arrest and custody routing, but it is not shown in the research as the operator of a public Cass jail photo roster.
Menard County Detention Facility is the confirmed serving facility for Cass holds. The Menard sheriff page says its public portal can show a current roster of Menard County Jail inmates. It does not state whether roster entries include mugshots, whether photos appear for all current inmates, or how long any photo stays online. That limit matters. Cass County jail mugshots should not be promised unless an official roster entry, agency response, or custodian confirms the photo exists and can be released.
Request Cass County Booking Photos
The best path to a Cass County booking photo is a custody-location check followed by an official portal or records request. A person arrested in Cass County may have records with Cass Sheriff, Menard, the arresting municipal police department, the Cass Circuit Clerk, IDOC, BOP, or ICE depending on what happened after arrest. Court records can help identify charges, but court portals are not mugshot galleries.
- Call Cass County Sheriff at (217) 452-7718. Ask whether the person was released, transferred, held for court, or housed at a receiving jail.
- If Menard is the holding facility, check the Menard public portal and call Menard jail at (217) 632-2273 if the portal is unclear.
- If no photo appears online, submit a FOIA request to the agency that holds the arrest or booking record. For sheriff records, address the request to Cass County Sheriff's Department, 101 N. Front St., Virginia, IL 62691.
- Include the full name, date of birth if known, arrest date, arresting agency, case or citation number, and the phrase "booking photograph or arrest photograph, when and if available."
- If the person was booked at a receiving jail, ask Cass Sheriff which agency controls the intake photo so the request reaches the right custodian.
Cass County Mugshot Fields

Cass County Mugshot Law
Illinois law does not make every image public in every setting, but it does name a photograph as part of arrest information when available. The key point for Cass County is that the request still must go to the right custodian. If Cass Sheriff made the arrest record, Cass may hold the arrest information. File Cass County Photo Requests
The Cass County FOIA form is the practical route when no official online image is available. It asks for the public body receiving the request, the date requested, submission method, requester contact details, copy preference, electronic format if needed, a narrative description of records requested, commercial-purpose disclosure, and fee-waiver information. For sheriff arrest records, name the Cass County Sheriff's Department as the public body unless the county directs a different routing.
A focused request is stronger than a broad one. Ask for arrest and booking information for a named person arrested on or about a stated date, including charges, arrest time and location, arresting or investigating agency, custody receive, discharge, or transfer times, and the booking or arrest photograph when and if available. Ask for electronic copies if that is acceptable. If the person was transferred to Menard, contact Menard too, because the receiving jail may control the intake photo or jail housing record.
Cass County Mugshot Removal
The research did not locate a Cass Sheriff policy for removing online booking photos, which follows from the absence of an official Cass mugshot roster. When a Cass County arrest is dismissed, sealed, or expunged, the practical records-clearing route is the Illinois court process under expungement and sealing law, handled through the court where the arrest or charges were brought. A court order can change what public agencies may release, but it does not mean an old third-party copy disappears from every place where it was copied.
Commercial mugshot-publishing or pay-to-remove sites are not official sources and are not useful for verifying Cass custody. Do not rely on them for current status, charge history, court outcomes, or photo removal. State and Federal Photos
IDOC, BOP, and ICE should not be mixed with Cass County jail mugshots. IDOC public profiles can show front and side photos for sentenced state custody, along with IDOC number, parent institution, status, physical profile, marks, admission date, projected parole or discharge date, sentencing information, and a VINELink path. Those images are state correctional profile photos, not local booking photos from Cass County or Menard.
The BOP public locator does not publish federal mugshots in the ordinary locator view. It can show federal inmate records from 1982 to present, including name, register number, age, race, sex, release date, and location. ICE ODLS is also not a mugshot database. It is a detainee locator for adult ICE custody or CBP custody over 48 hours, using either A-number plus country of birth or exact biographical details. Use those systems only when state prison, federal, or immigration custody is plausible.
Note: A missing mugshot online does not prove there was no arrest, no booking, or no custody transfer.
